서울 도심부 산업경관의 계보와 함의
Trajectory of the Industrial Landscape in Central Seoul 서울의 도심제조업은 공간적 입지특성과 산업생태적으로 독특한 구조를 가지고 있다. 지난 반세기 동안 도심재개발사업, 도심부적격기능 이전사업이라는 인위적인 공간재편 소용돌이에 노정되고 산업지원정책면에서 사각지대로 남아 있으면서도 생존력과 경쟁력을 갖추어왔다. 현재 서울의 도심제조업은 산업구조 변화 요청에 대응하는 한편 단순한 거래비용 접근을 넘어서는 산업지구(신산업공간)로서의 특성을 견지하고 있다. 더불어 지식기반경제시대에서 쇄신과 지식창출 공간으로서도 일정한 역할을 수행할 수 있는 기저를 갖추고 있다. 더 나아가 도시재생전략의 일환으로 문화적 도시재생사업을 수용할 수 있는 유휴공간 제공 또는 공존 가능성을 확인하고 이를 지속적으로 유지할 수 있는 산업유산으로서의 가능성을 타진해 보고자 한다.

Urban manufacturing in Seoul has particular characters in locational structures and industrial ecology. Though having remained as a blind spot of industrial support policies over the past half-century, it has survived the nagging turbulences of urban redevelopment and repetitive relocation projects that wrongly categorized manufacturing as the unsuitable for the city center. Responding to the necessity for industrial restructuring, urban manufacturing in Seoul holds characteristics of ‘new industrial spaces’ that transcends the simple transaction cost approach as for their evaluation: it has foundations for innovation and knowledge creation in the era of knowledge-based economy. This talk confirms the possibility of coexistence of urban manufacturing and cultural projects through the provision of shared spaces as part of the urban regeneration strategy, and explores its possibility of continuation as industrial heritage.
