도시 기록 현장의 시선 - 청계천 일대 도심제조업 기록화 작업 과정

Videographer : Dongkoo Jung(TechCapsule) 서울의 근대사를 관통하는 수많은 도시계획과 다양한 욕망이 충돌했던 세운 일대는 최근 일부 구역의 재정비촉진사업이 착수되면서 철거와 재개발이 진행 중이다. 세계적으로 도심제조업이 4차 산업혁명 시대 창의 혁신을 이끌어가는 새로운 잠재적인 동력으로 평가되는 가운데, 서울의 도심제조업 현장이 사라지고 있다. 사라지고 있는 세운 일대의 도심제조업 현장에서 고유한 도시 건조 환경을 조사하고 이를 디지털 아카이브로 담고 있는 기록화 과정을 소개한다. 10여년 넘게 이 지역의 역사적 도시 환경을 답사하고 연구했던 ‘구가도시건축’, 사람, 공간, 사물의 복합적인 네트워크 안에서 현장을 연구하고 자료로 수집하고 있는 ‘장소기억 프로젝트’, 그리고 삼차원 스캐닝, 가상현실, 디지털 매핑 기술 등을 활용해 보이지 않던 도시 공간을 발굴하는 ‘테크캡슐’, 세 팀의 컨소시엄이 서울시 시민참여예산 프로젝트로 뭉쳤다. 이 지역은 현재 50년 간 지속되었던 개발과 보존의 팽팽한 평형점이 무너지면서 큰 변화를 앞두고 있다. 연구자들이 지역의 미래를 위해 도시 기록이 어떤 힘을 가질 수 있을지 현장의 눈높이에서 고민해본다.

The Sewoon district where the monderization history of Seoul has been layered with a series of urban plannings and diverse impulses of growth. Recently, this area has undergone redevelopment through the vast range of demolishment, while urban manufacturing is globally reclaimed as an essential thrust of innovative industries. This presentation introduces an ongoing field survey project on the vanishing ground of the Sewoon-Cheonggyecheon-Euljiro area, which aims to provide comprehensive documentation of the unique built environment and its digital archive. It shows collaboration of the consortium consisting of three teams : Guga Urban Architecture, who has keen experience and architectural knowledge of this area through a decade of field research; Memory Place Project, who has conducted field works of material collections and interviews to investigate the sense of place within the network of people, space, and object; TechCapsule, who discovers new perspectives of the urban context with 3D scanning, VR, digital mapping technology. The citizen participatory budget program of the Metropolitan Government of Seoul initiated this project to support the collective value of ever-changing urban areas. The researchers raise a paradox of documentation that could empower and shape the future of the city beyond a frozen token of historic record.
