구로 무역박람회: 1968년 가을의 백일몽

이 발표는 1968년 가을에 개최된 한국 무역박람회를 역사적, 비평적으로 추적한 것이다. 한국 무역박람회는 구로공단 1단계의 완성과 구로공단 2단계의 시작 사이에 존재했다. 제1차 경제개발계획이 완성되고 2차 경제개발계획이 시작되는 시기이기도 했다. 이 박람회의 전시장, 시설 등을 맡은 이들은 종합기술개발공사의 건축부 소속 건축가들이었다. 건축가 김수근이 이끈 종합기술개발공사는 항만, 도로, 공업단지 건설을 위해 1966년 설립된 국영 엔지니어링 업체다. 이 회사에 속한 건축가들은 정부의 경제개발계획이 완성되었을 때 도래할 장밋빛 미래를 그려보였다. 한국 무역박람회도 정확히 이 역할을 맡았다. 짧은 전시 기간 동안 이 역할을 수행한 뒤 이 박람회는 역사에 특별한 자취를 남기지 못하고 사라졌다. 이 발표는 여러 파편들을 통해 이 짧았던 백일몽을 재구성해보고자 했다.
This presentation historically and critically traces the Korea Trade Fair held in the fall of 1968. The Korea Trade Fair existed between the completion of the first phase of the Guro Industrial Complex and the beginning of the second phase of the Guro Industrial Complex. It was also located between the first economic development plan and the second economic development plan. Those in charge of the exhibition plan and the fair facilities were architects belonging to the Architecture department of the Korea Engineering Consultants Corporation(KECC), led by architect Kim Swoo Geun. KECC was the state-owned engineering company established in 1966 to build ports, roads, and industrial complexes. Architects in the company were supposed to present a rosy future that would come when the government's economic development plan was completed. The Korea Trade Fair also played precisely this role. After playing this role during a short exhibition period, the fair disappeared without leaving any traces in history. This presentation attempted to reconstruct this short daydream through several fragments.

박정현은 서울시립대학교 건축학과에서 박사학위를 받았다. 『건축은 무엇을 했는가?』를 비롯해, 『전환기의 한국건축과 4・3그룹』(이하 공저), 『아키토피아의 실험』, 『중산층 시대의 디자인 문화』 등을 썼다. 『포트폴리오와 다이어그램』, 『건축의 고전적 언어』 등을 번역했으며, 《2018 베니스 비엔날레 한국관: 스테이트 아방가르드의 유령》을 비롯해 《종이와 콘크리트: 한국 현대건축 운동 1987~1997》 등의 전시 기획에 참여했다. 현재 도서출판 마티의 편집장으로 일하며 건축비평가로 활동하고 있다.
Junghyun Park received his doctorate from the department of architecture, University of Seoul. He has produced several publications, such as Modern Architecture in the Developmental State of Korea, and is the co-author of Korean Architecture in the Transitional period and 4.3 Group, Experiment of Architopia, and Design Culture in the Middle Class Age. He translated Portfolio and Diagram and The Classical Language of Architecture into Korean, and has participated in the planning of exhibitions such as Spectres of the State Avant-Garde, the Korean Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale 2018 and Papers and Concrete: Modern Architecture in Korea 1987-1997. He is the editor of MATI BOOKS and an architecture critic.
